Becoming a Certified Contemporary Clay Instructor involves successfully completing a two-tiered certification program developed by Metal Clay Australasia Pty Ltd and led by Senior Training Instructors such as Lex Sorrentino, Lara Le Reveur and Pam Annesley.
Level One Certification requires students to complete a comprehensive curriculum of contemporary clay classes and projects. After this, they must pass three free-choice examination projects, one from each medium (Air Dry Clay, Premo Sculpey Polymer Clay, and Precious Metal Clay - Prometheus), to demonstrate their foundational skills.
Upon successful completion of Level One, CCIP Artisans (Student Instructors) advance to Level Two Certification, which focuses on more advanced techniques and projects. Following the Level Two coursework, an additional three free-choice projects (one per medium) are required, along with one project in a tutorial/project format, to confirm mastery of these advanced skills.
Full certification is awarded by Metal Clay Australasia Pty Ltd only after all criteria are met and approved by a Senior Training Instructor.
Certified instructors are expected to deliver high-quality contemporary clay classes for adults and/or children, adhering to the standards set by Metal Clay Australasia Pty Ltd. To ensure instructors remain current with new products, ideas, and techniques, ongoing "Train-the-Instructor" classes and yearly retreats are encouraged. Metal Clay Australasia continuously monitors course quality to guarantee excellent instruction in all contemporary clay programs.
The ultimate goal is to establish Certified Contemporary Clay Instructors throughout Australia, providing classes using MAKIN'S CLAY PRODUCTS (while available), PREMO SCULPEY, and PRECIOUS METAL CLAY - Prometheus.
As part of the certification, instructors receive a kit valued at over $1000, covering both certification levels.
